Museum
Scavenger Hunt
- Provides the student the opportunity to learn about dinosaurs,
rocks, minerals, mammals,
vertebrate and invertebrate fossils. Each group leader of 5-6 students uses a map and multiple-choice
questions to guide the students through museum exhibits. The group
leader reads the questions and answers while the students, working
as a team, read the labels and view the exhibits to locate the
correct answer.
2nd grade - 12th grade
Activity
Length:
45 minutes to one hour including welcome and activity instructions.
Fees:
$3.00 per person for students, teachers, and group leaders for
either activity

June 1 st and August 21, only self-guided tours are available.
How
to Prepare for Your Trip to the Dinosaur Museum

1.
Schedule your museum visit well in advance of your
intended visit. Complete the email form below to
schedule your tour. Make sure to complete all blanks including the tour date, time of arrival (mountain time), grade level, number of students/adults, teacher's name/e-mail address
and phone number. An e-mail confirmation will be sent upon receipt of the tour
request. If you do not receive a confirmation, send an e-mail message indicating
no confirmation has been received and a confirmation will be sent via the postal
service. If no access to e-mail, mail request to museum or call museum the last
week of April to schedule a tour. Tours fill up fast, so schedule early.

2.
Arrange to bring at least one teacher or parent as group
leaders for each 5-6 students. Their assistance in this
educational activity will enhance the experience for
both the student and the parents.

Divide class into small groups and advise group leaders
they will be assisting with the activity.

4.
Students are encouraged to visit the museum
gift shop.
Numerous souvenirs are available for $1, $2, and $3 to extend the student's museum
visit.

5.
Collect fees for total number of students and adults prior to your arrival at
the museum. Pay museum staff person a lump sum upon arrival.

Museum
staff will provide instructions for the activities.
All materials necessary for the activities will be provided
by the museum.

BUS
TOURS
The
Dakota Dinosaur Museum features 11 full-scale dinosaurs including
a real skeleton of a Triceratops. Visitors can also view a complete
Triceratops skull in the museum's model lab. 91% of the exhibits
are real with many of the specimens collected from the area.
The museum features an outstanding collection of minerals
from around
the world. Other exhibits include fluorescent minerals, invertebrate
and vertebrate fossils, mammals including a bison and a rhinoceros
bone-bed, and modern seashells and sealife.

From Memorial Day through mid-August the Pioneer Machinery Museum
and Historical Village are also open. This walking tour is approximately
one half mile and may be difficult for some persons. The Prairie
Outpost Village is not handicapped accessible.
